Afghanistan’s mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman created history in 2018 by becoming the youngest player to be picked in the IPL auction at the age of 16 years and 296 days. After being shortlisted, he was picked up by Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) for Rs 4 crore. His breakout season came in the same year when he took 14 wickets in 11 matches with an economy rate of less than seven runs per over. Four Youngest Players in IPL Auction History

The same year he achieved another milestone by representing Afghanistan in their historic first Test match against India. He was retained by the Punjab franchise for the next two seasons but had a disappointing campaign with just three wickets in seven matches. He then moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad but there he played in just one match and took two wickets. This time again he is in the auction.

3. Prayas Ray Barman (2019) – 16 years 54 days

Bengal-born Prayas Ray Barman became a youth sensation after Royal Challengers Bangalore bid for him for Rs 1.5 crore in the 2019 IPL auction. However, he conceded 56 runs in his four overs without taking a wicket. With the bat, he scored a quick 19 runs and this is the only IPL match he has featured in. Unfortunately he was released by RCB ahead of the 2020 season and has not returned to the IPL since. His domestic career with Bengal has not been great either.

Allah Ghazanfar is another Afghan player to be a part of this list. Gazanfar was a young talent for Afghanistan during IPL 2023. At the age of just 15 years and 161 days, he made headlines by entering the 2023 IPL auction. However, he went unsold at that time. His fortunes changed when he joined Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024 as a replacement for Mujeeb-ur Rahman.

Apart from this, Mumbai Indians (MI) had signed him as a net bowler before last season, but he could not come due to visa reasons. During a recent match against Bangladesh in Sharjah, he took six wickets for 26 runs. His spell saw Bangladesh lose seven wickets for just 11 runs and Gazanfar set a new record. Having already represented Afghanistan in eight ODIs, Gazanfar also had a stellar season in the Emerging Asia Cup 2024. Four Youngest Players in IPL Auction History
